  • “I don’t know what he’s capable of,” Shellie Zimmerman said of husband George Zimmerman in a 911 call on Monday. “I’m really scared.” George Zimmerman found himself in headlines again after police responded to a call at his Lake Mary, Florida home after a report of assault and making threats with a firearm. Shellie filed for divorce last week.

Reports say that Shellie called 911 to report Zimmerman for punching her father and for threatening them with a gun and a knife during an argument. “I don’t know if he’s going to start shooting at us or something. He’s in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and he keeps saying ‘step closer’ and he’s just threatening all of us,” Shellie said during the 911 call.

After police responded to the Zimmerman home, Zimmerman was placed in “investigative detention” while they tried to sort things out. When Lake Murray police questioned Shellie, she changed her story from what she initially reported during the 911 call. She told police that she never saw a gun, and that things just got out of hand.

Neither Shellie nor her father wanted to pursue charges against Zimmerman. Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell commented on the altercation and explained that Zimmerman wasn’t arrested because “domestic violence can’t be invoked because she has changed her story and says she didn’t see a firearm.” Police are still investigating the incident.

Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara said the argument started after the two ran into each other while moving out of the house, but that the situation was typical of a couple that is undergoing a stressful divorce. “I know the 911 tape suggests that Shellie was saying something but I think that was heightened emotions,” O’Mara said. “There may have been some pushing and touching. That happens a lot in divorce situations…Nobody was injured.”
