Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood are mourning the passing of close friend and songwriter Kim Williams, who passed away Thursday evening at the age of 68.

Kim Williams was best known for Garth Brooks’ hit, “Ain’t Goin’ Down ‘Til The Sun Comes Up.”

Arriving in the Lowcountry on Friday in preparation for four shows at the North Charleston Coliseum, Brooks and Yearwood held a press conference, where he told those gathered about the death of his dear friend.

“He was a sweet man and he’ll live forever through his music, and through his friends,” Garth Brooks said.

Admitting that Friday night’s show would no doubt be an emotional one, Brooks added it would probably serve as therapy.

“I’ve heard the comment that we don’t need to be doing this, we don’t need the money. I need to be doing this,” Garth Brooks said. “Especially on a day like today, I’m going to need tonight more than anybody that came here. I’m coming here to get away, and get lost in the music.”

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will perform Friday night, two shows on Saturday, and yet another on Sunday evening at the Coliseum, assuring that lots of Lowcountry fans will see the two of them in concert.

Surely fans in the Charleston area will understand if Garth Brooks sheds a few tears over the loss of his good friend Kim Williams.
