  • Foursquare has introduced new buttons for publishers sites, which allow users to save pages to their Foursquare to-do lists.

When the user clicks on “Save to Foursquare,” a window pops up for confirmation, and then it’s on the user’s phone. “Now, foursquare will remind you about it the next time you’re out and about. If you’re using Radar, we’ll buzz your phone when you’re around the corner,” the company says on its blog.

“This is a major improvement over the first version of ‘Save to foursquare,’ making it easier to use for publishers and readers, and incorporating our new features, like Lists and Radar,” the company adds.

“Here’s how it works on the tech side of things: the button looks for location metadata embedded in the HTML of your page (specifically, hCard or OpenGraph),” the company explains. “If it finds that, it’ll automatically match that location to the corresponding venue on foursquare (so, if your page is about a local Olive Garden, the button automatically finds the same Olive Garden in our system).”

You can choose from a couple of different sizes, then just grab the code from here, and you should be good to go.

New York Magazine, Time Out Boston, New York, and Chicago, CBS, Eater.com, Frommer’s Travel, and AskMen are among the publishers already using the button.

Foursquare also unveiled a newly redesigned developer site. This includes a reworked “getting started guide,” and overview section that walks you through tutorials, set up and common use-cases, best practices, and an apps showcase.
