Since relaunching in 2013 as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Final Fantasy XIV has enjoyed moderate MMO success on PC and PlayStation 3. Now publisher Square Enix is bringing its re-tooled MMO to Sony’s latest console.
Square Enix today announced that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be coming to PlayStation 4 on April 14. An open beta test for the PS4 version of the game will begin on February 22.
Pre-orders for the PS4 version of the game begin today, and players who pre-order will get early access to the game starting April 11. Pre-orders also come with two in-game items: a Mog cap and a Cait Sith doll minion.
A collector’s edition version of Final Fantasy XIV for the PS4 has also been announced. That version will come with some different box art, an artbook, an extra disc with “movie content,” a soundtrack, art cards, and a security token. It also comes with several in-game items, including a fat chocobo mount, a coeurl mount, a wind-up moogle, a helm of light, a baby behemoth, and a behemoth barding. The collector’s edition is also available in a digital-only format, but only comes with the in-game items.
Along with the release date announcement, Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy XIV subscribers on the PlayStation 3 will be able to jump to the PS4 version with little trouble. Starting April 11, players will be able to transfer from PS3 to PS4. The transfer is one-way, meaning that players will not be able to switch back to PS3 after it is complete.
