If the active Steam community surrounding Skyrim is any indication, fans of sandbox games will play them forever if given access to good modding tools. And, since one of the blurbs Ubisoft is using to advertise Far Cry 3 is “Skyrim with guns,” the developers have wisely included a map editor in all versions (yes, consoles too) of the game.

Players will be able to use the Far Cry 3 map editor to create their own island using buildings, trees, caves, waterfalls, and weather. Created islands can also be populated with vehicles, enemies, and wildlife to make things challenging for a unique single player experience. After creating their island, players can then upload created maps to be voted on by the Far Cry 3 community. If a map becomes popular enough, it will be featured alongside official Ubisoft content for the game.
