Facebook has acquired Branch, the company behind link-sharing service Branch and iPhone app Potluck.

Branch CEO Josh Miller announced the news on Facebook, saying that the company will be continuing its mission at Facebook.

“We will be forming Facebook’s Conversations group, based in New York City, with the goal of helping people connect with others around their interests,” wrote Miller. “Their pitch to us was: ‘Build Branch at Facebook scale!'”

“Although the products we build will be reminiscent of Branch and Potluck, those services will live on outside of Facebook,” he added. “A more thoughtful note and details to come soon but I am writing this haphazardly from a mountain in Japan (I was tipped that the story was going to leak while on vacation).”

He goes on to thank Branch’s investors, which include Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone.

Miller didn’t disclose the price of the acquisition, and we haven’t seen anything official from Facebook, but The Verge is reporting that the deal was for around $15 million, citing sources familiar with it.
