Eric Medalle, 42-year-old creative design director for the Pokemon company, was the lone casualty of Seattle’s Sunday windstorm.
While Eric Medalle was taking his two-year-old daughter for a drive in nearby Seward Park, a large tree was blown over by the wind and crushed his car.
Eric Medalle’s daughter suffered only minor injuries and was pulled from the car by a bystander. He also has a six-year-old daughter.
Estrella Ferrer, Eric Medalle’s aunt, said of his shocking death, “It’s very sad and tragic to lose someone so young so suddenly. Everybody was shocked. I was completely shocked. I can’t believe it happened.”
She added, “He was a very creative person. He was a man of all talents.”
Eric Medalle has worked for Pokemon since 1999 starting as a freelancer and working his way up to creative design director.
He worked on Pokemon video games “Pokemon Black and White,” “SoulSilver and HeartGold,” “X and Y” and “Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.”
Eric Medalle is also credited with lots of art and logo designs for Pokemon card packs.

A crowdfunding page was set up for Eric Medalle’s daughters to help pay for their college education.
In part, the page states, “Education and curiosity are important Medalle family values. Eric was raised in Detroit and graduated a proud Wolverine from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.”
It continues, “He was passionate about art, photography, music and design, and his chosen hometown of Seattle provided endless inspiration. It was in Seattle that Eric met and fell in love with his wife, Carrie, and together they created a beautiful life and family.”
