After the recent news that you will be able to paint with Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in Epic Mickey 2, it has now been announced that another Epic Mickey title will launch alongside the sequel, this one for Nintendo’s 3DS.
‘Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion’ will be released this fall for Nintendo’s newest handheld gaming device. This follows Disney’s recent trend of releasing games for mobile platforms. The game will feature the ability for players to draw objects or characters and have them transformed into Disney-style 2D drawings, then rendered in 3D on the top screen of the 3DS.
This portable, scaled-down version of Epic Mickey will be based off of the Sega Genesis game ‘Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse’. The evil witch Mizrabel, the antagonist from the Sega Genesis game, will attempt to escape the confines of ‘Wasteland’ by sucking the ‘cartoon essence’ from classic disney cartoon characters, and players, as Mickey Mouse, will have to use his magic paint brush to save them. The ‘Wasteland’ is the world where Epic Mickey games are set, where forgotten Disney properties have been left to idle.
“The original ‘Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse’ changed the face of video gaming by allowing players to play as Mickey Mouse in a side-scrolling adventure full of dynamic environments,” said Warren Spector, vice president of game developer Junction Point and creative director for the game. “We’re honored to be able to pay tribute to this classic video game by creating a title that truly takes advantage of the unique capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS, putting the magic of Disney and the historic Castle of Illusion in the palm of your hands.”
