  • Emily Blunt recently signed on to play a role in the upcoming thriller, The Girl on the Train.

Now, Rebecca Ferguson has confirmed her role for the film as well.

Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson will fill two of three leading roles for the movie, which is based on Paula Hawkins’ best-selling book of the same name.

Emily Blunt will play the role of Rachel, who is an unemployed alcoholic. Rachel is the narrator of the story.

Emily Blunt’s character, who is getting over a nasty divorce, spends the time during her daily train ride thinking about a picture-perfect couple she sees in a house that she passes.

However, Rachel comes home covered in blood one night after a black-out bender and can’t remember anything. But, she thinks she may have been involved in a crime.

Rebecca Ferguson will play Anna, who is Rachel’s ex-husband’s new wife.

Erin Cressida Wilson, of Secretary and Chloe fame, is adapting the screenplay. Marc Platt is producing the film and Jared LeBoff and Celia Costas will be executive producing.

Emily Blunt is sure to raise eyebrows in this new role, but hopefully not in the same way she did after an awkward blunder at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual grants presentation recently.

Emily Blunt was among a long list of stars at the event, including Lady Gaga, Halle Berry and even Ice Cube.

But, it was Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro’s missed stage cue that set her apart.

The mistake left Jane Fonda on stage to kill time, so she used it to make jokes at the expense of the two missing presenters.

She said, “You know Benicio, he does seem a little bit unreliable, doesn’t he? You look into his eyes — really interesting, maybe not so reliable. But Emily Blunt, you would think she’d show up on time, right?

She added, “I don’t think they’re off making out somewhere. This is really funny! I have no idea where they are.”
