Elizabeth Smart, kidnapping and rape victim, was married to Matthew Gilmour today after pushing the ceremony forward.
According to MSNBC, the marriage took place at Hawaii in the Laie Hawaii Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The marriage was originally planned to take place this summer, but was moved to today to avoid any distractions by the press.
Only the couple and their families were invited to the private ceremony and the couple plan on taking an extended honeymoon.
Elizabeth Smart is most well-known for being kidnapped at knife-point in 2002. She was held captive and sexually abused for nine months until she was rescued. After the ordeal and putting her captors behind bars, she became an activist for those who suffered the same indignities. She has also formed a foundation to help victims of abuse.
There are no public photos of the actual marriage due to its private nature, but Smart published a photo of herself and her husband. Just imagine them in a dress and a suit and it’s almost like you’re there.
As always, Twitter has something to say:

I fail to understand why Elizabeth Smart’s marriage is “news.” Leave this woman alone, for goodness’ sake.
