Yesterday we told you about how singers Edie Brickell and Paul Simon, now married for 22 years, were both arrested and summoned to appear in court on charges of domestic disturbance.
A few more details of that event and the aftermath have now emerged.
Apparently, a 911 call was placed from the Simon/Brickell residence in New Canaan, Connecticut. The caller hung up without speaking. As is standard procedure, police were dispatched to see what was up. After all, someone could have made it to the phone, but lost consciousness.
When police arrived, they saw evidence of a domestic disturbance. Apparently there were some minor injuries on one of the spouses, though they did not say which one.
Simon and Brickell admitted that they had argued and that there was some light shoving.
“There was aggressiveness on both sides,” police chief Leon Krolikowski said at a news conference on Monday. “They’re both victims and they have children involved and we’re trying to be very cautious of that.”
The couple were both given a summons to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge. They came in together, and the judge saw no reason to issue a restraining order against either of them.
The couple’s lawyer, Alan Cramer, waved off any concerns about the argument calling a “1 on a scale of 1 to 10.” He said that the only reason anyone was interested in the situation at all was because it was a slow news day and these two were names.
“If it were Joe Blow we wouldn’t be here. You certainly wouldn’t be here. These people have had a wonderful life together and they’ve never had these types of problems.”
Am I the only one who thinks Paul Simon and Edie Brickell staged this disorderly conduct thing to hype her upcoming fight with Garfunkel?
