  • The elephants at the Denver Zoo had an unexpected visitor on Monday night. A woman, identified as Kelly Flynn, was apparently extremely disoriented, and made her way into the elephant pen unknowingly. It was originally reported that, as Flynn made her way into the pen, she received a high-voltage shock from the electric fence. However, police later determined that she had not been electrocuted, that she was just really intoxicated.

Flynn was transported to a nearby hospital, for treatment, where she was later arrested on trespassing charges. “Extremely intoxicated female entered elephant pen at zoo & sat down next to electrical wires,” the Denver police tweeted at 10:08 p.m. Monday. “Female transported to nearby hospital due to high level of intoxication.”

The Denver Zoo released a statement, via e-mail, that read: “At around 8:55 p.m., on December 23, 2013, Denver Zoo security was alerted that a disoriented woman was found inside an animal yard in the zoo’s Toyota Elephant Passage exhibit. No animals were in the yard at that time. The woman was transported for medical care. Denver police and Denver Zoo are talking to guests to determine what happened.”

Flynn is scheduled to appear in court on January 22.
