Dr. Luke Releases Statement About “Smear Campaign”, Adele Publicly Announces Support For Kesha

Dr. Luke, the producer currently entangled in a legal battle with singer Kesha, took to Twitter earlier this week to speak a bit about the allegations of rape and abuse leveled against him, then released a statement via his attorneys saying that Kesha is simply trying to extort money and renegotiate her contract. However, the pop star is gaining quite a bit of support from her female peers, including a very influential one: Adele.

Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, and several other stars have already voiced support for Kesha and have taken to social media to spread the word about the injustice they feel is being pushed upon her after a judge ruled that she must complete her contract with Sony–and, by extension, Dr. Luke–rather than be allowed out of it. Supporters say it’s ridiculous that a young woman should be made to work with her alleged rapist, but the new statement released by Luke’s lawyers insists that it’s “telling” that she didn’t report the sexual abuse when it happened.

“As Dr. Luke has said repeatedly, the allegations against him are outright lies that have been advanced to extort a contract renegotiation and money. Kesha and her counsel have cavalierly subjected Dr. Luke and his family to trial by Twitter, using a vicious smear campaign to ruin his reputation for financial gain while failing to support their claims…tellingly, Kesha never reported any purported abuse or rape to any law enforcement authority, or even to Sony Music, and further swore under oath in another matter, while accompanied by her team of lawyers, that it never occurred. The goal of Kesha’s counsel throughout has been to obtain a more lucrative contract through a shameless campaign of outrageous claims they will never stand behind in a court of law,” the statement read.

Adele has now joined the cadre of musicians in support of the young singer, publicly announcing it at the Brit Awards on Wednesday. The move is seen as a bold one, since Adele is also under the Sony label.
