There have been predictions of “doomsday” for hundreds of years. From Y2K, to the most recent scare of December 21, 2012, people have been preparing themselves, in numerous ways for the day that life will stop as we all know it.

The “National Geographic” channel has already had one show regarding “doomsday”, “Doomsday Preppers”, but now they have another family to feature on their new show, “Doomsday Castle”.

Brent Sr. says that he began preparing for doomsday pre-Y2K. “I was worried the computers that control everything, from natural gas to electricity, would go down. When they didn’t, I cooled off for a couple years because I didn’t want people to think I was crazy, but then got back into it,” he said.

When asked why he decided to build a castle, his responded by saying: “Most people have enough food for about 10 days,” he said. “If there are no trucks to replenish the food supply, though, that’s a major problem. If the government isn’t there to help them out, fighting and looting will eventually start, like you saw during Hurricane Katrina, and could eventually reach the countryside. The calmest person in the world will turn into a savage if he sees his baby crying and his children go hungry. I built the castle to defend against marauders and to have a place that could function without electricity.”

Brent II, Brent Sr.’s son, had been estranged from his family when he called National Geographic for the show “Doomsday Preppers.” Even though he doesn’t believe, as strongly as his father, in living the “doomsday” lifestyle, he says that this has helped him begin reconnecting with his family. “When I first told my dad about calling the casting directors, he nearly disowned me,” he said. “But I kept working on him, and he eventually agreed that it’d be good to get this message about prepping out there. I think it’s a very pessimistic view, but I do think it’s a good idea to have a place to wait out hurricanes.”

“Doomsday Castle” will premier tonight at 10 p.m. ET, and will look into the lives of Brent Sr. and several of his 10 children as they prepare their home for the end of time. The last name of the family and the location of the castle is being disclosed for fear of curious spectators.
