Don’t hold your breath, and skip crossing your fingers, too, since you’ll likely need your digits for something else before an agreement’s reached.  But it looks possible that Google TV will still be able to strike a deal with at least one major network, as a Disney exec has admitted that discussions are taking place.

Anne Sweeney is an important person at Disney; her full title is "co-chair, Disney Media Networks, and president, Disney/ABC Television Group."  So from Google’s perspective, it’s good that she’s aware of the talks and willing to acknowledge them.

Anne SweeneyAlso, it’s encouraging that, according to Sue Zeidler, Sweeney said, "It’s fair to say there’s conversation with Google. . . .  More conversations are planned with them."

The downside is that Sweeney clarified with respect to the talks, "I can’t characterize them as negotiations."

Otherwise, Zeidler reported, "Sweeney said the talks have been mostly focused on Disney’s concerns about piracy issues.  Disney’s concern is that Google TV doesn’t completely block out all pirated content."

For the time being, then, official ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC content all remains blocked Google TV, making Google TV products look like less than the perfect Christmas present.
