Daniel Craig bailed on an upcoming legal thriller called The Whole Truth on Sunday, just days before it was set to begin filming. The James Bond star was to star in the indie film–Courtney Hunt’s first in six years. Apparently when you’re Daniel Craig, you can pick and choose what you want to do–and seemingly don’t have to give much notice to others involved in the projects either.

Besides the James Bond franchise, Craig hasn’t done anything spectacular in very recent years except for portray his role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Compared to the Stieg Larsson book series, the film didn’t fare nearly as well.

Fans would no doubt love to see Daniel Craig star in something worthwhile between James Bond films, but they apparently are of little to no consideration in his decision making either. He will reprise his 007 role in the next Bond film–Bond 24–when filming starts in the fall of 2014, under the leadership of Skyfall’s director Sam Mendes.

Renee Zellweger and Gabriel Basso will also star in The Whole Truth, with Danny Huston in negotiations to sign on as well. Craig was set to play a district attorney in the legal thriller. The story line is being kept under wraps but the film itself was announced at the Berlin Film Festival. Production was supposed to have started in Boston on April 14th, but will now have to be delayed a minimum of three weeks while producers scramble to find a replacement.

No one seems to know why the actor suddenly dropped out of the film. Speculation is running rampant.

It doesn’t sound like Daniel Craig behaved in a very appropriate manner, bailing on this film just days before The Whole Truth was set to start filming. Do you suppose the James Bond star has had a better offer or might he simply be freeing himself up in case something even more appealing comes along?
