44-year-old Erbie Bowser, a former educator and Dallas Mavericks entertainer, was apprehended without incident at the scene of his second shooting in a Dallas, Texas suburb, DeSoto, on Wednesday night, according to authorities. Bowser began his rampage about seven miles outside of DeSoto at the home of his current girlfriend, Toya Smith.
The second crime scene, the DeSoto home of Bowser’s estranged wife, 47-year-old Zina Bowser, was where the gunman was arrested on Wednesday night. The home had been Erbie Bowser’s former residence as well. Also killed at the final shooting scene was Zina Bowser’s daughter, 28-year-old Neima Williams. Two unidentified males, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old (neither of any relation to the shooter) were injured and are currently listed in critical condition. Bowser apparently tossed an explosive device into the home before opening fire again, although authorities have not yet determined what exactly it was.
Bowser’s alleged shooting spree began about fifteen minutes before the second shooting, around 10:30 p.m., at a home in which Bowser shot and killed Toya Smith, Bower’s reported girlfriend of late, and her 17-year-old daughter, Tasmia Allen. The woman’s 14-year-old son and Dasmin Mitchell, a 17-year-old family friend, were wounded. Allen’s teenage son is listed in critical condition and Mitchell is recovering from her injuries after surgery.
Smith had been talking to her mother on the phone shortly before the shooting began. When she didn’t hear back from her daughter, Toya Smith’s mother drove to her daughter’s home where she found the victims and called police. The 13-year-old male in the home had also contacted 911 to report what was happening.
According to police, Bowser has not indicated any reason for the shootings and has spoken little while in custody.
