NASCAR legend Dale Jarrett was inducted into the sport’s hall of fame yesterday, joining his father Ned. The two become the second father-son duo alongside Lee and Richard Petty.

Jarrett enjoyed a long and successful career, which included a cup championship in 1999, two brickyard titles, and three victories in the Daytona 500.

Jarrett was introduced by country star Blake Shelton, who continued the father-son theme by telling a story about his father’s long illness and death, and how seeing his son become friends with the sport’s biggest stars kept him happy in his final days.

After that it was all eyes on Jarrett, who became emotional while addressing his own father: “My dad was and still is today my hero. That’s what really makes this night so very special: I’m joining my father in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.”

Jarrett was joined in the hall of fame by fellow inductees such as Maurice Petty, brother of the aforementioned Richard Petty, Jack Ingram, and Fireball Roberts, who was one of the first true NASCAR celebrities but tragically perished in a fire caused by a crash. Also among the inductees was Tim Flock, who is notable to having a Rhesus monkey as a passenger during races for years. Only in NASCAR.
