Last month, the yet-to-launch Google TV did quite well for itself, grabbing a whole lot of headlines and getting all sorts of people excited. And although this observation may not seem as timely, it turns out that Google’s existing video properties did well for themselves in April, winning an additional 1.4 percent of market share according to new comScore data.
As the table to the right shows, comScore reported that Google’s share of the market was 43.2 percent in April. That’s up from 41.8 percent in March, which would be good under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, Hulu lost market share (slipping from 3.4 percent to 3.2 percent), making Google’s gain all the more impressive in that it’s pulling away from its closest competitor.
Third-place Microsoft didn’t manage to keep up with Google, either, staying steady at a market share of 2.1 percent. Then Yahoo even lost a spot in the rankings, falling from fourth place to fifth as its market share decreased from 1.5 percent to 1.2 percent.
Anyway, if Google can manage to gain 1.4 percent per month for another five months, it’ll pass the 50.0 percent mark. Feel free to place your bets in the comments section regarding whether or not the search giant can match (or beat) that pace.
