Comcast Unveils Xfinity Streampix On-Demand Streaming Service

Comcast has announced a new streaming video service that will bring customers a wide variety of content. Xfinity Streampix will be availble to customers who subscribe to Comcast’s Xfinity service. Streampix will allow users to stream shows that are no longer on the air in their entirety, as well as past seasons of current shows. Streampix is available on all the same platforms that current Xfinity customers can use to view their content: Xfinity On Demand on their cable boxes, XfinityTV.com, and the Xfinity TV mobile app.

Comcast has partnered with an impressive array of content providers to bring a wide variety of shows and movies to the Streampix service. Initial content partners include Disney-ABC Television, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, and Cookie Jar Entertainment. Several shows are available to stream already, including 30 Rock, Heroes, Lost, Married… With Children, The Office, and more. Movies include Ocean’s Eleven, When Harry Met Sally, The Big Lebowski, and Brokeback Mountain. There are also several children’s shows available including Inspector Gadget, Paddington Bear, Strawberry Shortcake, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Wizards of Waverly Place.

There does not yet appear to be a comprehensive list of content available on Streampix, but the sampling Comcast lists in their press release suggests a wide variety of content. Parents who are looking for ways to introduce their kids to the classics of their own childhood are definitely in luck. Comcast also says that they are working to expand the Streampix catalog, as well as the number of platforms viewers can use to watch. Comcast says Streampix will be coming to the Xbox 360, Android devices, and other devices in the next year.

Streampix is available as part of the Xfinity service, and can also be bundled with some of Comcast’s other services. It is unclear exactly when Streampix goes live. Comcast only says “this week.”

Comcast customers, will you be getting Streampix? Let us know in the comments.
