  • Christina Ricci looks horrifically murderous as she wields a blood-spattered ax posturing as the infamous Lizzie Borden. The real Lizzie Borden was an American woman who was tried and acquitted in 1892 of the ax murders of her stepmother and father in Massachusetts.

The case has become folklore among Americans and although Borden was acquitted, Lifetime seems to have convicted her given the image it used for the movie poster. Speculation about Borden’s role in the crime continues even today.

The movies poster shows the 33-year-old actor carrying a horrific bloody ax with blood splattered around here long white nightgown. Lifetime’s made-for-TV movie, “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax” aires January 25th and also stars Billy Campbell and Clea DuVall.

The film storyline recounts how on a scorching, hot summer day in 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts, Lizzie Borden (Christiana Ricci) returns home to find her stepmother Abby and father, Andrew violently murdered. As usually, the police mount their investigations and several people are questioned but evidence repeatedly points to Lizzie, a Sunday school teacher, as the prime suspect.

She is eventually hurled to court to face murder charges but her lawyer Andrew Jennings (Campbell) mounts a spirited defense arguing that Lizzie is innocent and there is no way a woman could commit such a heinous crime of brutally murdering her family with an ax. However, this does not prevent the press and the courtroom from sensationalizing the case, forever ruining Lizzie Borden’s name.
