Actress Christina Applegate, a breast cancer survivor, is now appearing in a new public service announcement for the charitable organization Stand Up to Cancer titled When You Don’t Know What to Say, Stand Up.

“We are so honored to have a survivor as inspiring as Christina participating in this PSA campaign,” Rusty Robertson, the co-founder of the organization, said in a statement.

“Her personal story is incredibly powerful and a source of hope for those in the same situation,” Robertson added. “This collaboration with Cancer Treatment Centers of America will be a great resource for anyone that is dealing with the anxiety, distress and grief associated with a cancer diagnosis.”

Christina also released a statement explaining why she chose to participate in the PSA. She wants other cancer survivors and fighters to know that they are not alone.

“I know first-hand how important it is to have a strong support system,” Applegate’s statement read. “It was a sense of community that helped me, as well as many others, get through a time that is never easy; and why I am so proud to join Stand Up to Cancer and Cancer Treatment Centers of America on this campaign. Each of us has the power to support and fight.”

Applegate, 42, found out that she had breast cancer in 2008 and underwent a bilateral mastectomy. “I think when you get diagnosed with cancer, there’s such a sense of loneliness, but we need to know as people going through this is that you’re not alone,” Christina told ABC News of her breast cancer diagnosis.

Since her mastectomy, Applegate has been living cancer free and has been devoting her time helping those who are currently fighting the disease.
