Chance the Rapper Receives Impressive Award

  • Chance the Rapper is an impressive musician. He has worked as an MC for artists like Justin Bieber and Skrillex, meaning the 21-year-old is clearly on his way up in the music world. More important than these accomplishments, however, is the fact that Chance has spent time recently raising awareness about violence in Chicago as part of his #SaveChicago campaign. He’s been very open on the topic ever since his friend was killed there in a street fight.

The rapper was honored for those efforts recently by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Emanuel presented Chance the Rapper with the Outstanding Youth of the Year Award for the city of Chicago.

He shared an Instagram photo of himself with the mayor, captioning it, “I received the most important award I will ever win today.”

Chance realizes how important awards in the music industry may be one day for his career, but as for right now, he’s beyond happy with this mayor’s award.

“It’s an honor to bear that weight,” he said of the inscription on the award.

Chance the Rapper’s father recently helped promote his son’s #SaveChicago campaign. That resulted in the city of Chicago going a full 42 hours without a gun-related homicide.

If Chance the Rapper has saved even one life through his anti-violence campaign, his efforts will have been well worth it. It’s abundantly clear that Mayor Emanuel recognizes that, too.
