  • It’s been two months since British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and her veteran actor husband, Michael Douglas, shared their marital complications with the world.

While most questions and speculations have centered around the cause for the separation, things are gearing toward a different direction these days.

Most fans are wondering is there a chance that the couple may not be ready to throw in the towel? If Michael Douglas’ appearance on Jay Leno is anything to go by, the situation could be quite hopeful, TODAY reports.

Last week, the four-time Golden Globe winner visited the “The Tonight Show.” When Leno inquired about the status of Douglas’ relationship with his wife, “Wall Street” actor gave a very optimistic response. “I’ve been away for a while, but everything should hopefully be on the up and up,” Douglas told Leno. “Sometimes people take a little bit of a break, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the end. So I’m very hopeful.”

Douglas and Zeta-Jones announced in August that they agreed to separate, with no intent to divorce. They have been married for 13 years, and have two children together; Dylan Michael, 13, and Carys Zeta, 10.

The announcement of their separation causes the media to probe into the crux of their marital problems. A mutual acquaintance for the couple stated that their health issues contributed to their problems, putting a strain on the relationship. Zeta-Jones battles with bipolar disorder, and Douglas also announced his complications with tongue cancer.

Although the issues they face could take a toll on any marriage, its clear that Douglas loves his wife. Hopefully the two can move forward and repair their marriage.
