Caroline Wozniacki was upset in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday, her first match since the shocking breakup heard 'round the world last week.

Wozniacki, who had been engaged to longtime boyfriend Rory McIlroy for five months, suddenly found herself single again after the couple mailed out their wedding invitations and McIlroy decided he couldn't go through with it. She says she felt rusty during her first match after the breakup, although physically, she was okay.

“I felt a little bit rusty, and it wasn’t really a pretty match. But I tried. … I don’t feel [pain in] my wrist at all, so that’s all good. I could feel my knee a little bit in the extreme situations, but in general I’m positively surprised about how it held up," she said.

Wozniacki said after the match that she didn't want to talk about her personal life, which echoed what her ex said just after news broke last week; both athletes say they want to focus on their respective careers--tennis for her, golf for him--and put the heartbreak behind them.

“I don’t really want to talk about my personal life. I hope that you all can understand that. The only thing I really have to say is that, you know, [I want to] thank everybody for their support and sweet messages. … What happens in my personal life, I just want to really keep that between my closest people around me. You know, I just have to move on," Wozniacki said.

McIlroy accepted the blame for the split, saying he just wasn't ready.

"The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had."
