Candace Cameron Bure has said in the past the she and her husband of 19 years, Valeri Bure, succeed in their marriage because Candace practices the Christian practice of being submissive to her husband.

“My husband is not a dictator,” Candace Cameron Bure told Yahoo Parenting, addressing those controversial statements. “We work together but I don’t want to dig my heels in, and I have no aspirations to be the ruler of my family. We are two equal people, but I love my husband and I want him to lead. I trust that my husband has our family’s best interests at heart, so I wouldn’t fight him on that. And when I feel strongly about something, he agrees with me. It goes both ways.”

Candace Cameron Bure, who has three teen-aged children with her husband, is set to star in the Hallmark Channel’s Aurora Teagarden: A Bone to Pick, which will air this spring. The busy couple, who take turns keeping a close eye on the kids, think they just may have the key to succeeding in marriage and managing busy careers.

“Friendship is the foundation of marriage but you also need private time,” Candace Cameron Bure said. “You need that intimacy—not just romantic but also through conversation. It’s easier for my husband and I to have dates now that our children are older … it’s worth it to make it a priority, otherwise, you see how it affects a marriage.”

Candace Cameron Bure, who famously suffered from anorexia nervosa during her days on Full House and wrote a book on the experience, is the author of two other books about motherhood and marriage, Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose and Reshaping It All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness.
