Bruce Springsteen fans were treated to tracks leaked from his new album High Hopes, which isn’t scheduled for release for another two weeks. The new album became available in MP3 format on Amazon.com on Saturday. This was a mistake on behalf of Amazon.com, but by the time they realized what had happened, pirated copies of the album were circulating the internet at a fairly rapid pace. Quick-thinking fans with an eagle eye were able to download the album before Amazon fixed their blunder, however, so they (the ones who legitimately purchased the music from Amazon) likely think Christmas lasted an extra few days.
High Hopes is officially scheduled for release on January 13. It is the follow up to his 2012 album, Wrecking Ball.
Neither a rep for Bruce Springsteen or a rep from Amazon.com has yet to make an official statement about the serious blunder.
High Hopes is the 18th studio album for Bruce Springsteen, and the first for the E Street Band since the announcement of its upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April. Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist Tom Morello appears on 8 of the album’s 12 tracks. Two members of the E Street Band who have passed away also appear on the album. Both Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici’s talents lend themselves to High Hopes.
Were you among those who bought High Hopes from Amazon.com on Saturday? Is it on your list for purchase when it is officially released on January 13th?
