Bridget Moynahan plays Erin Reagan on the hit CBS show Blue Bloods, now in its sixth season. Recently co-authoring a cookbook, Moynahan says much of it was inspired by those Blue Bloods scenes played out around the dinner table that grace a part of every episode.

“I think it’s the moment that people get to see the characters as real humans and the most vulnerable because you’re with your family,” Bridget Moynahan said during an interview with CBS This Morning. “But I also think it’s a moment that they reflect and think, ‘gosh, I wish we were able to do that’ or looking back on memories.”

Moynahan says each of the show’s characters has developed their own strategy for filming those dinner scenes.

“Tom (Tom Selleck) butters his bread–and that’s kind of really good because you could think and talk and you could butter that bread for as long as you want and there’s no issues with food getting in your teeth,” she explains. “I cut it up for a long time–now my thing is eating mashed potatoes.”

The Blue Bloods Cookbook features dishes inspired by those Reagan family dinners. Bridget Moynahan says by the time the cookbook was published, the Blue Bloods cast had sat down at that dinner table for 111 dinners. Some of the recipes are her own from her childhood.

One of Moynahan’s personal favorites is Swedish meatballs. She had them every Christmas Eve as a child. Now her own son Benjamin asks for them frequently.

Are you a Blue Bloods fan? Do those Reagan family dinners make you yearn for a large family and classic dining room full of aunts, uncles, and cousins?

Of course, who wouldn’t kill to have Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, or Bridget Moynahan come to dinner?

While purchasing The Blue Blood Cookbook won’t guarantee a dinner guest, it will guarantee some fabulous recipes inspired by both the cast, the show, and Bridget Moynahan. The cookbook is available at bookstores now.

Blue Bloods airs on Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. on CBS.
