We’ve reached a point in the last few years where a decent superhero movie is basically a license to print money for the studio that makes it. It happened earlier this summer with Marvel’s The Avenger’s, and it looks like it’s happening again with The Amazing Spider-Man. The reboot of the Spider-Man franchise rocketed to the number one spot at the box office this weekend. The movie’s domestic haul was $140 million, and its international total hit $201.6 million for the weekend.

Seth McFarlane’s less-than-family-friendly teddy bear movie Ted held onto second place after being in first last weekend. Ted‘s haul for the weekend was $32.6 million, bringing its domestic total to $120.2 million. On a more kid-friendly note, Disney Pixar’s latest animated film Brave continued to perform well, hanging on to the number three spot, raking in an additional $32.6 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $174.5 million.

Universal’s Savages opened at number 4 with $16.2 million, while Magic Mike had a somewhat less-than-impressive second weekend with $15.6 million in the number 5 spot. Rounding out the list is Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection in sixth with $10.2 million, Madagascar 3 in seventh with $7.7 million, Katy Perry: Part of Me in eighth with $7.2 million, Moonrise Kingdom in ninth with $4.6 million, and To Rome With Love in tenth with $3.5 million.
