An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a beautiful, popular Bollywood actress.

Suraj Pancholi, the boyfriend of Jiah Khan, was taken into custody on Tuesday and is under suspicion of having aided Khan in killing herself. The actress left a lengthy suicide note which didn’t name names, but described her rape, abuse, and forced abortion at the hands of someone who “ruined her life”. Pancholi reportedly spent two nights with Khan before she hanged herself and was the last person she spoke to on the phone.

“He is arrested for abetment to commit suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code,” Additional Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre-Patil told AFP. “There is a suicide note, there is a statement of (Khan’s) mother and some circumstantial evidence of triggering.”

Khan’s body was found in her apartment by her mother on June 3; her parents have told police that their daughter suffered abuse at Pancholi’s hands. Reportedly, he was on his way to being a star as well, and had just been signed to star in the Salman Khan movie “Hero”. Indian publications have released portions of Khan’s letter, which appear to be in conversational form to her boyfriend.

“When I first met you, I was driven, ambitious and disciplined. Then I fell for you, a love I thought would bring out the best in me. I don’t know why destiny brought us together. After all the pain, the rape, the abuse, the torture I have seen previously I didn’t deserve this. It didn’t matter how many gifts I gave you or how beautiful I looked for you. I was scared of getting pregnant but I gave myself completely (the) pain you have caused me everyday has destroyed every bit of me, destroyed my soul. If I stay here, I will crave for you and miss you. So, I am kissing my 10-year career and dreams goodbye. I never told you but I received a message about you. About you cheating on me. I chose to ignore it, decided to trust you. You embarrassed me.”

25-year old Khan–who was born in New York as Nafisa Khan–was well known in India; she began her career in 2007 with the film “Nishabd”, in which she portrayed a girl in love with her father’s best friend. She hadn’t worked much in recent years, however, appearing last in the 2010 film “Housefull”.
