Angels right-fielder Bobby Abreu says he’s not aware of any talks his team has had about trading him to the Cleveland Indians, but that’s been the rumor around the field this week. In fact, CBSNews has reported that the trade was more than a rumor and was almost complete before a snag regarding Abreu’s contract came up. It’s speculated that Cleveland was wary of taking responsibility for the player’s $9 million salary–although that’s not necessarily enough to end a trade agreement, as evidenced by Tim Tebow and his recent move to New York; they hit the same snag.
At 38 and a 4 for 46 at-bat record as of this spring, Abreu is perhaps becoming a liability for the Angels, who were also rumored to be discussing his trade to the Yankees earlier this year. But Abreu insists he’s still in good shape and doesn’t want to dwell on rumors, since the outcome is out of his control anyway.
“…One of the things I’m doing now that’s more important is getting myself ready for the season so that when I do get opportunities to play I can do my best,” Abreu said. “Honestly, I just want to get ready for the season.”
Sam Miller has written a pretty interesting read: “Pebble Hunting: Your Job Sucks, And So Does Bobby Abreu’s“.
Two players I completely forgot existed: Bobby Abreu and Travis Hafner.
I wanted Bobby Abreu ??????
