Bobbi Kristina Brown’s death and the circumstances leading to it seemed to churn out endless stories. The singer was not incredibly popular, but the scandal and rumor surrounding the circumstances of her death — eerily like that of her own mother, Whitney Houston, who was a bona fide superstar — caught the world’s attention.
Recently, Bobbi Kristina’s father announced that he has a memoir coming out next year called My Prerogative — the title of perhaps his biggest solo hit tune. Bobby Brown took care to mention when announcing he book that he was asked to write it before Bobbi Kristina’s death. But what is not clear is if he was approached after Bobbi Kristina’s long and tragic headline trek began. Bobbi Kristina was on her deathbed for months after she was found unresponsive in that bathtub. Did Bobby Brown get a book deal in the meantime?
A press release from the book’s publisher promises My Prerogative will “tell the full story of his life and set the record straight, particularly about his relationship with Whitney Houston.”
Brown himself says in the release, “Right after I signed on to write my story, I went through one of the most agonizing traumas I had ever experienced with the death of my daughter [Bobbi Kristina Brown]. But I was surprised by how therapeutic it was to work on this project, to look at the entire arc of my life and to realize that although there has been considerable pain, I have also been incredibly blessed.”
Brown continued to talk about his upcoming book and even possible movie in an interview with WBLS radio at their Circle of Sisters 2015 event.
“I have another angel to carry me through whatever I have to go through,” Bobby Brown said of his daughter’s death. “I’m really blessed with my children, and everything that I have to do is about that. It’s about love. I have a lot of love around me, and I have a lot of love that I give. So, you know, it’s about that.”
Of his memoir, Brown said, “We’ve been working hard on it,” he said, “and I’m just trying to get all the cobwebs out and trying to be as honest as possible.”
When pressed about the process of writing his memoir, Brown was less positive than in the press release.
“It’s terrible. It’s terrible. My story is really deep,” he explained. “But it’s funny, and it’s a whole bunch of things. You can find humor in it – I can, because I lived it. But you can also find some sad parts, some crazy parts, but at the same time, it’s still Bobby.”
But why stop there?
“From my memoirs I’m doing a script for my movie,” he explained, “so hopefully you’ll see me on the screen really soon.”
