Bob Saget once viewed Bill Cosby as a mentor. For the first time this week, the Fuller House star has spoken out about that former mentor, saying he’s done some “despicable” things.

During an interview with the Huffington Post, Bob Saget shared his thoughts on Bill Cosby.

“I think any human being that does things that are despicable to other human beings will be slightly tarnished by history,” he said. “I went to [Cosby’s alma mater] Temple University, and he was a mentor of mine. It’s very sad. I think the answer is obvious: The man has been tarnished. And it’s just sad for all of the people involved.”

Bob Saget went on to talk about how another of his mentors, the late Richard Pryor, was also strongly influenced by Bill Cosby’s humor.

“I was fortunate enough to know Richard Pryor, and Richard Pryor started by copying Cosby’s material,” he said. “Then he went, ‘I’m gonna go try it this way.’ And that was more my influence [from Pryor], but I also had respect for Cosby because he changed stand-up comedy.”

Bob Saget is reprising his role as Full House dad Danny Tanner in the Netflix reboot of the popular show, called Fuller House.

It’s sad when those we look up to profoundly let us down. Bob Saget likely isn’t the only actor or comedian who revered Bill Cosby as a mentor. Fortunately there are many other great comedians and actors that today’s up-and-coming stars can look to for inspiration.
