Black Friday is a day that is both dreaded and anticipated by many, sometimes in the same person. As a former retail manager, I can relate to that. Knowing you might make up for an entire year's worth of crappy sales in just one long, stressful day can sometimes be worth having no bathroom breaks and a hastily eaten lunch consisting of a soft pretzel and some Dippin' Dots. On the other side of that coin, though, is knowing you will be taken away from your family at holiday time, and you will be taking your employees away from their families, and also, a lot of people who are out shopping on Black Friday are tired and grouchy and have likely just come to blows with an old lady over the last 64" high-def television. They don't care that you've been on your feet for 16 hours straight or that you've been dealing with call-ins all day.

This is what many people will be dealing with this year, and one mall in particular is ensuring that they'll be dealing with it for 26 hours straight. The Rockaway Townsquare Mall in New Jersey has reportedly sent a memo around to each store informing them that the mall will be open from 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night until 10 p.m. the next day, and participation is mandatory.

Of course, the Rockaway Mall isn't the first or only place of commerce that will be open longer hours for Black Friday, especially with the competition of Cyber Monday, which brought in billions of dollars both last year and the year before.
