Bears can be pretty clever when there’s something they want, and since they have the brute strength to back up most plans, it’s not hard for them to get whatever they desire.
But they aren’t usually caught on camera, considering their environment, so it’s shocking when you can see them in action. A Colorado restaurant recently did just that when a bear wandered into their parking lot and stole their dumpster, pushing it on its wheels before tipping it over.
“Intruder stealing the dumpster last night,” an Edleweiss employee wrote under the surveillance video on the company’s Facebook page. “WOW. This must be the Mama.”
The restaurant’s owners say they only recently put in the surveillance system because they’ve had issues with vandals and graffiti.
“We’ve only had [the system] for a few weeks now,” Dieter Schnakenberg said. “We just wanted to protect the place a little.”
For now, any protecting they do will be from an overzealous bear. Schnakenberg says they plan on locking the dumpsters to the fence at night from now on.
