I had an idea for a game once. It would take the concept behind Angry Birds, but tell the story from the side of the pigs. They must have a good reason for wanting to steal the eggs. Why not give them a voice? My game never took off, but Rovio is doing me one better with their own game that’s focused on the pilfering pigs.
Rovio announced that their next game would be called “Bad Piggies.” It will allow players to see the bird/pig conflict from the other side for the first time. In even better news, the game will not be a retread of the gameplay found in Angry Birds.
“There’s a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we’ve been constantly asked: what about the pigs’ side of the story?” said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. “Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the Angry Birds universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes.”
Unfortunately, all we know about the gameplay is that it won’t feature slingshots. How exactly will we see the world “through their green eyes?” Are we going to get a first-person shooter where players take on the role of Duke Pigsem as he travels the world looking for eggs to steal? Probably not, but a guy can dream, right?
The game will be available on September 27 for iOS, Android and Mac. Versions for Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC will be available at a later date.
More news revealed at the official Web site in due time. For now, we’re left with another one of Rovio’s excellent animated shorts that signal the beginning of the piggy invasion.
