  • Ubisoft today announced its Season Pass offer for Assassin’s Creed III, which will offer the game’s upcoming DLC at a discount. The announcement is unsurprising, as most big-budget titles have similar offers. The deals sell a game’s future content up-front while gamers are still playing the game, before they get bored and move onto others.

The interesting part of Ubisoft’s announcement is what the company revealed about the DLC itself. After players finish the campaign of Assassin’s Creed III, they can look forward to more assassin mayhem while battling George Washington.

Three episodic DLC packs will tell the alternate-history story of “The Tyranny of King Washington,” where the beloved U.S. president indulges his lust for power. From the Ubisoft announcement:

As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges. Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend.

“History is our playground – and [Assassin’s Creed] teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period,” said Sebastien Puel, executive producer at Ubisoft. “While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened.'”

In total, there are are five Assassin’s Creed III DLC packs included in the Season Pass. In addition to Washington’s story, the downloads will feature new maps and characters for multiplayer content. The Pass can be bought for 2400 Microsoft Points over Xbox LIVE or for $20 via the PlayStation Network sometime in the six months after Assassin’s Creen III is released. Ubisoft was unclear as to whether the Season Pass would be available to PC or Wii U gamers.
