  • Aron Ralston, the man who inspired the James Franco film “127 Hours”, has been arrested in Denver after a domestic violence incident.

Ralston allegedly got into a heated argument with his girlfriend, Vita Shannon, and the two of them are both accused of getting physical with one another. Shannon was also arrested.

“There apparently was some type of heated argument, police got involved, charges and counter charges were filed. This is just two people trying to work out a difficult relationship,” said Aron’s father, Larry Ralston.

The couple allegedly fought in front of their 3-month old daughter and have both been charged with a count of wrongs to a minor. Ralston says Shannon hit him on the back of the head with her fists during an argument, and she says he shoved her.

Ralston made national headlines when, in 2003, he found himself trapped beneath a boulder while rock climbing. After five days, he eventually managed to break his own arm and amputate it with a small knife he had with him. The story was turned into a successful film starring James Franco and is the subject of his book, “Between A Rock And A Hard Place”. Ralston is now an engineer and motivational speaker.

Ralston will go before a judge today for a bail determination.
