Ariana Grande wrote a lengthy farewell letter to her Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat this week, posting it to Twitter for all her fans to see.
The 21-year old and her co-star, Jennette McCurdy, have seen some controversy in recent months after photos leaked online of McCurdy in revealing lingerie, and rumors began flying that the images were responsible for the show’s demise. But there has also been talk of tension between the stars over money, and a spokesperson for Nickelodeon claimed in April that everyone was just “tired”.
“We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of Sam & Cat, and everyone is understandably tired,” says a spokesperson for Nickelodeon. “We are going into our production hiatus next week which will give everyone on the show a much needed rest.”
The show was originally scheduled for a 40-episode run after its instant success, but will wrap up on July 17 instead.
“I want to thank Nickelodeon for being a family to me. Thank you to the cast and crew who I spent almost every day with for a good four or five years. I can’t imagine that there is a more pleasant or professional crew in Hollywood. When I was younger, people loved Cat so much I used to pretend to be more like her. It took me a long time to be brave enough to separate myself and show people how different we actually are. I admire her so much. She never lost her sense of wonder. As we grow up we become more and more jaded and fearful of how we come across. She never changed. A lot of people will think this is a lot for some ‘dumb’ kids show character, but to me she is actually a lot smarter, stronger and braver than all the rest of us,” Grande wrote.
