In a world where celebrity couples names are combined to form one (Brangelina) and the public yearns to know who is dating or broken up with whom, a question should be asked: Why do we care?
Following the love lives of celebrities isn’t anything new, but nowadays it seems as if no-name celebrities and their flings-of-the-week are pasted all over the media. This includes 21-year-old singer Ariana Grande.
Grande, who made her debut in 13 on Broadway in 2008, was seen on Nickelodeon’s Victorious before her song “The Way” became a top ten hit on the Billboard 100 and went double platinum. During the past few years she has had an on-again, off-again relationship with the Australian YouTube prankster Jai Brooks. Grande is 21. Brooks is 19.
There was a time when young relationships would grace the cover of teenybopper magazines like Tiger Beat and Bop. Nowadays the lives of young stars are making entertainment headlines.
Eonline recently reported that Grande ended things with Brooks last month after her grandfather passed away.
“When her grandfather was dying, everyone was there for her,” a source said. “People flew to Florida to be with her, but Jai didn’t. Ariana just felt he wasn’t there like he should have been.”
Earlier this week, the Boca Raton native posted a cryptic tweet that supposedly was inspired by Brooks.

So perhaps it is the development of social media that is leading to so much private information about young celebrities being out there. As those in their 30s and 40s say, “I’m glad social media didn’t exist when I was in college!”
So much information, including photos, is shared, even perhaps when it shouldn’t be.
But, for those who care, Ariana does seem to be officially broken up from the teenage Aussie. At least for today.
Grande’s second studio album, My Everything, is set to be released on August 22.
