Anthropic is merging Claude’s regular chat and Cowork into a single interface and adding two new productivity tools, Claude Docs and Claude Slides, both in beta. The unified “one Claude” interface puts chat, Cowork, Artifacts and Claude Design, Anthropic’s design and prototyping tool introduced in April, in one window, TechCrunch reported.
Anthropic said customers often struggled to pick the right tab for a task. Now Claude routes requests itself. Claude “can now figure out what a task needs, so what Cowork and Design can do is available from any conversation, with the context, skills, and connectors you already have,” the company said, as quoted by The Verge.
Docs and Slides
With Docs, users can work alongside Claude to draft sections, answer its questions and comment on finished parts. Like Google Docs, documents start private and can be shared with other editors who work at the same time. Collaborators, Claude included, leave comments that look like Google Docs comments.
Slides lets users ask Claude to create, edit and present decks, then download them as PDF or PowerPoint. “Anything you make with Claude Design, Slides, or Docs lives at one shareable link you can open on your phone,” Anthropic said. Users can also start a document on desktop and check its progress in the mobile app.
Pressure on Google and Microsoft
Google’s AI has the advantage of being built into its productivity suite. Earlier this year, Google added Gemini chat, full-document generation and slide creation to Docs, Sheets and Slides. The Verge noted that Claude’s Docs and Slides start to close that gap, giving users fewer reasons to leave a Claude chat for other tools.
Availability
The update is rolling out to Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop and mobile over the next few weeks, with Team and Free users coming later. Anthropic says there’s “nothing to turn on.” It follows an upgrade to Cowork’s memory layer that helps Claude remember user context across chats.
