Following her Oscar win in 2013, Anne Hathaway reportedly experienced a wave of negative reaction called “Hathahate” that caused her to retreat temporarily from the limelight. In her recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Hathaway talks about that period of her life and how she is ready to woo back her fans and detractors.

“People treated me a certain way. But I've grown from it. This whole thing has made me a way more compassionate and loving person. And I don't feel sorry for myself,” she said. Hathaway graces the cover of the November issue in a red strapless Giogrio Armani Prive gown with a sequined bodice.

After an awkward acceptance speech at the 2013 Golden Globes for her Best Supporting Actress win, where she reportedly forgot to mention her cancer-stricken manager, Hathaway made a faux pas when the film Les Miserables won later that night. “While everyone was still getting onstage, I spoke. I should have gone after everyone else. I own that; it was rude,” Hathaway said.

The next day, Hathaway encountered an article hating on her, which left her feeling “punched in the gut.” She claimed her ill health at the time due to her role in Les Miserable left her feeling vulnerable, but she didn’t want to court sympathy at the time. “I was in crisis. Now I'd be fine. I really would be. I'd let it roll off my back, but at the time I was still partly Fantine. I was still identifying with being a victim,” said Hathaway. Even winning the Oscar that year was overshadowed by the pink dress from Prada that Hathaway chose to wear, which showcased her nipples. Hathaway reportedly decided to wear the dress because she had no other options at the last minute.

Hathaway said that the controversy surrounding her temporarily made studios afraid to touch her, but that her current role in the upcoming movie Interstellar set things right for her again. “Once it was announced that I was doing Interstellar, thankfully the phone started ringing again,” she said.
