The holidays have been good to Android. Google SVP, Mobile (and Android co-founder) Andy Rubin tweeted (and posted to Google+) that there were 3.7 million Android activations on 12/24 and 12/25 (Christmas and Christmas Eve) alone.

UPDATE: There were 3.7M Android devices activated on 12/24 and 12/25. 7 hours ago via Mobile Web · powered by @socialditto

That’s pretty impressive. It would be interesting to know how many were tablets (and which tablets for that matter).

I also have to wonder how many activations there were the day after Christmas, when all the stores opened back up.

Rubin’s update follows a report from Flurry Analytics indicating that there were 6.8 million iOS and Android devices activated on Christmas day (compared to 1.5 million from December 1 – 20 combined).

Rubin reported earlier this month that Android was seeing over 700,000 activations each day. Shortly after he posted that, he clarified that by activations:

…and for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.

Clearly, not only have the holidays been good to Android, but 2011 has been good to Android. It was just in June when Google reported it was activating 500,000 devices per day.
