Not being a huge Woody Allen fan–to be honest, he gives me the creeps–I’ve never paid much attention to his quirky films even though he’s hailed by critics as a genius. Well, maybe because he’s hailed by critics as a genius. But–dare I say it–I’m very curious about his latest project, which includes an interesting cast containing two of my favorite funnymen: Louis C.K. and Andrew Dice Clay.
Louis has a pretty successful show on FX, which is both delightfully gross and honest and has become a favorite of mine and my husband’s. But the Diceman has been conspicuously absent from the spotlight in recent years, appearing in a handful of cameos and not much else. His choice to appear in an Allen film is odd, but it could be just the boost he needs to get back into the loving arms of his fans.
Clay tweeted about the movie news recently, saying he had a big surprise for his fans and then following up with a Woody Allen namedrop.
The film, which either doesn’t have a name yet or is being held close to Allen’s vest, is set to begin shooting this summer, and it will be interesting to see if Clay can still pull off that bad-boy raunchy attitude he always had. Considering he was banned forever from MTV for cursing during a live broadcast, I’d say it’s a good bet. However, even though his stand-up routine is well-known for salty language, his memorable film characters have endeared fans to him over the years. “Ford Fairlane” is just the tip of the iceberg. How about the way he stole the show as the Zippo-flipping bouncer in “Pretty In Pink”?
Here’s hoping Clay shows us a little bit of each of his sides in the new film.
Warning: NSFW, obviously.
