Amy Adams has always exuded a cheerful, bubbly confidence onscreen, but recently she spoke about being intimidated by Clint Eastwood during the filming of their upcoming film, “Trouble With The Curve”.

“Yeah, it’s completely intimidating. I definitely wanted to please him, but I had to get over that as I was playing his daughter who is not impressed with him at all,” she said. “I had to shake that to convincingly play someone who was at odds.”

And although she says “Superman” was one of her favorite films growing up, she didn’t want to let that intimidation get the best of her when it came to filming “Man Of Steel”, even though she’s playing Lois Lane, a character brought to life by Margot Kidder. She says she was encouraged by director Zack Snyder to make the role her own and have fun with it.

It was intimidating because it was played before by Margot Kidder, whom I love. One of my favorite movies growing up was “Superman” — and “Superman 2.” I was kind of a nerd; I loved them so much. It was important to create a character that was new because I thought she was perfect. It’s hard to step into a role where you thought someone had already achieved what could be achieved. But coming from theater, you’re always stepping into a role that’s been done before, so you’re always excited about it,” she said.

As far as any similarities to the original film goes, Adams says that’s not what the director was going for, and a completely new incarnation of the story is what fans have to look forward to.

“It’s a totally different realization of the Superman lore, so I felt free in that way because I wasn’t trying to emulate any sort of banter that had been established by Christopher Reeve and Kidder. I was given a lot of permission to create a new character,” she said.
