  • Amanda Knox has been acquitted in the murder of Meredith Kercher. An Italian court overturned her murder conviction late on Friday afternoon.

According to a report from Hollywood Life, this marks the end of a long and twisted road for Amanda Knox. She was arrested and imprisoned for the murder of Meredith Kercher–one of her roommates–back in 2007, along with her then-boyfriend Raffaelo Sollecito.

Both were found guilty in 2009, with Amanda Knox sentenced to 25 years in prison. In 2011, their convictions were overturned and both Knox and Sollecito were released. However, they both were retried in 2013.

Amanda Knox had returned home to Seattle, Washington by that time, and she wasn’t present for her second trial. She and Sollecito were once again convicted in January of 2014. He was sentenced to 28 1/2 years behind bars and she received 25 years in absentia.

This isn’t the first bit of good news Amanda Knox has had to celebrate of late either. In February she announced her engagement to musician Colin Sutherland. He had corresponded with Knox while she was imprisoned abroad. When they later met in person, they knew they were in love.

Amanda Knox and her family must be thrilled with this latest turn of events. This, of course, in no ways furthers any closure for the family of Meredith Kercher.

Do you think Amanda Knox is innocent? Does she deserve the acquittal she received today?
