12% of Americans Use Smartphones in the Shower and Other Facts to Make You Hate Everyone

Everybody is addicted to their smartphones, and the problem is only getting worse.

For instance – 72% of American adults said that they always keep their phones within five feet. Never out of mind, never out of reach.

Credentials management company Jumio commissioned Harris Interactive to conduct the poll on mobile consumer habits. The poll, which asked over 2,000 U.S. adults about their smartphone usage, found that we are all waaay too attached to those big hunks of plastic.

We already knew that. Just go to a restaurant or look at any person under the age of 40. You’ll see. But this is hitting a critical point here, people. 12% admitted to using their smartphones in the shower. We know from previous studies that everyone is using their phones on the toilet – but in the shower? It’s ok to have some “me” time, you know?

Not only that, but a good amount of people admitted to using their smartphones during church, on dates, and during sex:

The whole “smartphone during sex” thing gets even more prevalent when you focus on the younger crowd:

“It’s no wonder people in relationships feel like their phones are cramping their love life  – 12% of respondents in a relationship said they believe their smart phone gets in the way of that relationship,” says Jumio.

I’ll stop playing the holier than thou card. I’m just as guilty as the next guy. I don’t even remember the last time that my smartphone was more than five feet from me – except maybe this morning when I was showering.
