Canadian Twitterers using Rogers or Fido can now update to the service and receive updates using SMS. Tweets are treated as standard messages by these services, so there are no extra charges according to Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

Google has launched a preview of Google Voice, which is an application that lets you manage voice communications by converting voicemails to text. Google Voice is the new version of GrandCentral, which Google acquired back in 2007. For now, GrandCentral users are the only ones that get Google Voice.

Text Messaging Available In Gmail Chat
If you live in the US and are a user of Gmail’s chat service then you now have access to a pretty cool feature which allows you to send text messages right through the chat window!

We’re just trying it out for cell phones in the United States right now, but you can send texts to your friends with US phone numbers from anywhere in the world.

Text Messaging Right From Gmail

Gmail has introduced a new Labs feature that allows users to send SMS text messaages to their contacts directly from Gmail. This will help stay in touch with people you have been chatting with in Gmail if they are away from their computer.

To utilize this feature:

1. Click on Settings
2. Got to the Labs tab
3. Scroll down until you see "Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat"
4. Select Enable
5. Save Changes

Marketers Still Cold To SMS Ads

While mobile data use has doubled since 2003, mobile marketing has been slower to grow, according to a new study by Forrester Research. The study found that only 13 percent of interactive marketers relied on text messaging to reach consumers in December 2006.

When marketers were asked what would make them spend more on mobile sites and other emerging media, most of the respondents in the Forrester study said "proof of use".
