Online Video Viewing Reaches Record Audience
More than 157 million U.S. Internet users viewed online video during the month of June, the largest audience recorded for a single month, according to a new report from comScore.
The rise in video viewing is mainly due to important news stories during June, including Michael Jackson's death and the Iranian elections, which generated significant gains particularly at major media properties such as Viacom Digital (includes MTV), Microsoft sites (includes MSNBC) and Turner Network (includes CNN).
Advocacy Group Calls For Scrutiny Of Microsoft-Yahoo Deal
Advocacy organization Consumer Watchdog is urging the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department to look closely at the proposed Microsoft-Yahoo search deal to ensure there are no antitrust violations and that user privacy is guaranteed.
Under the proposed deal Yahoo would use Microsoft's Bing to sell ads that appear with search results. Google currently has 65 percent of the U.S. search market. Microsoft and Yahoo have 28 percent. Conventional wisdom is that the combination of the two smaller search businesses would offer stronger competition to Google.
Microsoft, Yahoo Search Deal Likely
Microsoft and Yahoo are close to reaching a deal on search and online advertising after more than a year and a half of negotiations.
A number of reports have surfaced indicating a Microsoft partnership with Yahoo on search is "imminent."
Microsoft Opens Hohm To Public
Microsoft has launched Hohm, its new website for managing and regulating home energy usage.
Hohm allows people to better understand their energy usage, receive recommendations and ways to save money. Recommendations can vary from placing new caulking on windows to removing air leaks to installing a programmable thermostat.
The recommendations are based on specific information about a users home including house features, usage patterns and appliances. The savings will vary based on the information shared and the characteristics of consumer's households.
Microsoft Seeks Buyer Of Razorfish

Microsoft has put its online digital ad agency Razorfish up for sale and has hired Morgan Stanley to help find a potential buyer.
French marketing company Publicis Groupe, which is planning more acquisitions focused in online advertising, is thought to be a possible buyer of Razorfish, according to the Financial Times.
Bartz: Yahoo Has Execution Problem
At Yahoo's annual shareholder meeting, Chief Executive Carl Bartz said the company had "nothing to say" about any potential deal with Microsoft and asked investors to be patient as she works to overhaul the company.
"If we ever have a deal with Microsoft, it will be announced publicly and until we do, we have nothing to say," said Bartz said at the meeting in Santa Clara, Calif.

More than half (55%) of IT professionals say the economy has changed the role of IT and 51 percent say that budget limitations are the biggest barrier to their innovation, according to a new study released by Microsoft and conducted by Harris Interactive.
Bing Has A Good First Week
Microsoft's new search engine, Bing got off to a good start during the first week of its public launch, according to an early report from comScore.
The results of the analysis showed a substantial improvement in Microsoft's position in the search market in the days after Bing's launch.
Microsoft increased its average daily penetration among U.S. searchers from 13.8 percent during the period May 26-30 to 15.5 percent during the period of June 2-6, an indication that the search engine is reaching more people than before.

With Bing officially launching today, senior program managers from Microsoft discussed the new decision engine in the session "Bing: A New Approach to Internet Search."

Google Dominates Canadian Search Market

Google grabbed 80.17 percent of all Canadian searches for the month of April, according to Hitwise.
MSN ranked second with 8.84 percent of the search market followed by Yahoo with 7.34 percent. Ask received 2.75 percent of searches, while the remaining 41 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool accounted for 1 percent of Canadian searches.
