YouTube Seals Its Biggest “Premium Sports” Deal Yet

Baseball fans in Japan and four other countries have reason to celebrate today.  A record-breaking deal involving YouTube and Major League Baseball has been struck, and as a result, said fans will gain access to lots and lots of footage.

In an email to WebProNews, a YouTube representative provided some more details in the form of bullet points.  One highlight is that "[f]ull-length, catch-up MLB games [will be] available in Japan 36 hours after they air."  Historic game footage will be offered, too, along with profiles of Japanese players.

MLB.com To Offer Entire Playoffs Online

MLB.com has partnered with Fox Sports and Turner Sports, the rights holders to postseason baseball games, to allow fans to watch all of the playoffs online at Postseason.TV.

Postseason.TV will launch Wednesday, October 7, when the Division Series begins on TBS. It will be accessible from MLB.com, FoxSports.com, MSN and MLB.com/TBSHotCorner.

Yankees Fans Can Now Catch Games Online

Major League Baseball said today it is partnering with Cablevision and the New York Yankees cable network, YES, to offer live games online in the team’s local market.

MLB.com And NHL.com To Offer Bundled Subscription Package

Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Hockey League (NHL) have teamed to offer each leagues games online via a bundled subscription.

Earlier this month, MLB.TV went on sale with its full-season package (March-October 2009) for $109.95, a $10 discount off the 2008 price. NHL will launch its standalone Race for the Cup service on February 16 for $79.95. The bundled subscription for the two leagues will be available February 16 for $139.95.
